Uru Adventure gives children the chance to get guided physical activity in an environment that is non-competitive and nurtures their natural development. We work on building life skills and helping children center themselves through activities and exploration in nature. We accomplish this through our Sunday programs as well as our summer camp.

Our Mission

To help children gain strength and life skills through outdoor experiences.

RABBI DANIEL MOSES, M.Ed., AMI Montessori Elementary Certified
Uru Adventure Founder & Lead Guide

Daniel Moses brings nearly 20 years of teaching experience to Uru Adventure. While teaching in suburban Washington D.C. Jewish schools, he has made diverse educational experiences and personal growth in his practice of teaching a priority. This approach of immersing himself in a variety of experiences gives him a unique perspective and understanding of children and their educational and developmental needs.

Daniel has also shared his passion for community and interacting with children in broader communal work by coordinating the KMS youth minyan for seven years and helping teens develop it into a vibrant and sustainable program. He has also gained experience in adult education and congregational rabbinic responsibilities during his time teaching.

Daniel is known for his honesty, compassion and caring approach towards his students. While not interacting with his students, he enjoys spending time with his family exploring the beauty of the natural and human-made world.

URU ADVENTURE PHILOSOPHY

“The plants of the field had not appeared on earth and all the grasses of the field hadn’t sprouted forth, for the Almighty had not yet brought rain and there was no man to work the ground” (Bereshis 2:5)

The Almighty withheld the rain that would reveal the splendor and majesty of creation because there were not yet humans to recognize and appreciate the splendor. One of the deepest-seated anchors of the human mind is an awareness and recognition of the natural world. It is the field upon which our developed minds were first able to apply language and logic. We have come a long way in developing technology and ever expanding our capabilities through curiosity and intellectual exploration. However, this human tradition was and is still based on a deep and personal connection to the natural world. As life speeds up and we encounter more layers that cover our interactions with nature, it is increasingly important to put effort into the fostering our relationship with nature. In nature, our minds and bodies become aware and awakened to the complexity, beauty, and divine latent in the world. We feel centered and able to confront challenges after connecting to the natural world around us.

Young children’s minds are much more malleable and able to synchronize with natural rhythms. As children explore and interact in natural settings, many of the unnatural anxiety and feelings of unsettledness begin melting. Children must be encouraged to grow and develop with the technology of our times, but must also not lose the chance to become aware of the knowledge of nature upon which our ancestors built technology. The challenge and opportunity we have with children is to help them through knowledge, fun, guidance and love to gain awareness of their natural heritage. We must help children’s minds have the chance to be imprinted by nature while they are most capable of creating the neural pathways that will keep the experiences for life.

This challenge and necessity inspires the vision of Uru Adventure. Our goal is to empower the unbridled spirits of children with the transcendent power of nature awareness.
