Leader-in-Training (LIT) Program

The Leader-in-Training (LIT) Program provides 13-15 year olds (entering grades 8-10) the opportunity to gain leadership skills through personalized mentoring and continued participation in Uru Adventure Camp activities.

Before Camp Starts:

Starting with an overnight camping trip, participants will meet other LITs, counselors, and mentors as they learn strategies for developing communication skills, teamwork, guiding children, and understanding nature. There will be one day of training and planning as well, locally, before camp starts.

LITs will work with Rabbi Moses while being given responsibilities and greater freedom during the camp day. LITs will identify the strengths that can help them contribute to camp programming, identify which tasks may be more challenging, and learn responsibility for others. In particular, they will focus on learning how to work as a team and becoming independently responsible.

During Camp:

LITs will apply what they have learned as they work with children for at least three weeks in camp. Participants will have an assigned bunk and role based on the training and planning session before camp. They will be assigned specific responsibilities for part of each day when they will be working with children. There will be daily check-ins with Rabbi Moses previewing and reflecting on how these tasks went.

Each participant will need to provide one reference and have an interview before acceptance.

Participation in the LIT program is a great way to prepare for becoming a full staff member at Uru Adventure Camp in the future.
